Washer out of balance error Lr

Yesterday I heard my washer banging like it had an out-of-balance load and when I got to the laundry room in the basement, it had stopped and had the Lr error code. After three tries I finally got it to spin out enough water to throw the clothes in the dryer. Then I ran it through a cycle with nothing in it and the same thing happened. It did slow spin but when it started to to whine like it was going into the fast spin, it made the thunk, thunk out of balance sound and stopped. A few seconds later it tried again and the process repeated three or four times before it finally cut off and gave an Lr error message.

I’ve tried reading the other posts but I’m still not sure if that means its the actual motor or just the motor control board. Unlike some other people I have washed a couple of loads a day for over 6 years and no trouble till now. I hate to ditch it and get a new one but I don’t want to spend $800 on a repair, either. Where do I start?

Ishoyle,

I’m a little surprised you have a “LR” code, I’d expect a “UL” code for an unbalanced load. based on your post. You may have a loose wire or damaged off balance switch, that could be causing the situation, as well.

You could access the interior of the control panel, and run several tests from the control panel.

Unplug the power cord, remove the three(3) screws across the top of the control back panel, push backwards on the lower portion of the front of the control panel, and pull the top portion towards you, and the panel should pivot and open.up for you. Your tech data sheet and testing information should be inside the panel. We’d have a better idea of a starting place, with the code history and running a couple of board output tests, etc.
