Washer keeps filling until overflows

The machine does not move to wash cycle and keeps filling unless I move the dial manually. From reading other threads, my suspicion is the pressure control hose but I am unable to find how to get to it on the machine.

Does to top lift up or do I need to go through the back?

Thanks for any help.

I’m finding that this happens intermittently. We ran a few more cycles and it worked sometimes and sometimes just kept filling. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, it does sound like the water level switch. First unplug the washer, and by the picture it looks like you have to pop the end caps off the right and left side of the control panel, and then, behind each one is a phillips head screw, holding down the front. Remove both of them, and then flip up the control panel, and you can get to the water level switch from there. Tom

How do I identify the switch and how do I determine if this is in fact the problem?

The switch is the one that you turn to set the load water level on small, medium, and large. If you pull up the control panel, like I said, and locate the switch, there will be a clear plastic hose, attached to it. Pull the hose off, and blow through it. If you can, then replace the switch. If not, where the other end of the hose goes, which is on the right side of the drum, close to the back, it would be clogged there, sending a false message to the water level switch. Tom

Thanks kayakcrzy. I’m going to try it later this evening and will get back to you. It sounds pretty easy to do.

One other thing kayakcrzy. If the hose happens to be clogged, will I be able to get the the other end of the hose next to the drum, from the panel area or will I need to take anything else off? Thanks again.

Actually if you pull the washer away from the wall, and make sure it is unpluged, and lean it back up against the wall, and lay down on the floor, and get to it from there. Tom

The hose does not seem to be clogged. I was able to blow in it and could hear air going straight through. Does this mean that the only thing it can be is the switch or could the hose be broken somewhere between the switch and the drum? It did work intermittently so I’m thinking if the hose was busted, it would never work correctly. What do you think?

Most of the times it is the water level switch. You could pull the hose from the water level switch and the tub, and hold your finger on one end, to close it off, and blow through it. If you cannot blow through it with your finger clogging up the other end, I would replace the water level switch. Tom

Any idea how much the switch costs? Do you know if its expensive?

It goes for about 20 to 25 bucks. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Oh well. I replaced the switch and it looked OK for a few days. Now it happened again. I checked the hose from the switch to the basin and its completely clear. I even blew compressed air through to see if it was a little clogged.

Any ideas on whar to do now. This is getting frustrating.

Charlie, pull your drain hose out of the drain, and tell me how far it went in. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Do you mean the hard rubber darin hose that goes into the pipe on the wall for draining?

If thats the hose your talking about, it’s about 3 inches in. maybe about halfway between the end and the big bend.

Is it possible that something is wrong between where the pressure hose fits onto the drum and the drum? I blew air in throught the hose and I could see it come out in the drum, but doesnt the water level switch work on pressure coming back through that tube? So, if there wasn’t enough (or any) pressure coming back, the switch wouldn’t turn off the flow of water? I pulled the hose off while the tun was full of water and there seemed to be no pressure.

Or maybe I’m just getting frustrated and trying to think of anything.

I think I know what you are thinking on this so I pulled the drain house out so that it’s just in the drain for some airflow. Still the same problem. Could the timer do this?

Yes it can. It is hard for me to pin this one down from here. But it is possible it could be the timer. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

I’m thinking it’s time to get another machine. The timer has got to be pretty expensive. Are there any simple tests to check it?

CHARLEYK…The next time it overfills, how do you stop the water?? Do you shut off the [cold or hot]water… tap or by pulling the power plug or shutting off the timer [knob]..??If you stop it by the timer or plug it,s in the timer.. If it the water tap it,s the mixing valve[cold..hot water valve on the washer]…g luk
