I’ve a Speed Queen washer (model aws17nw). At the beginning of the wash cycle it will always fill up with water, yet sometimes it begins to agitate and sometimes it doesn’t. It will usually stop the agitation and sometimes will re-start. However, sometimes it will got the the rest of the wash, rinse, and spin cycles without doing anything and the timer will reach end of cycle. I have noticed that a “gentle” bump with the fist near the control panel will cause it to resume operation temporarily.

It sounds like intermittent timer. Your washer model shows four different timers that can be used with it. In order to get the correct one please open the console and let me know what is the part number of the existing timer. Then, I will be able to find you the timer you need.
