Brand: KitchenAid Model Number: KRFF707ESSO1 Main Symptom: Warm fridge with ice on the coils behind the drawers in the fridge. What happens & when: Fridge gets warm and ice builds up as stated. I use a hair dryer to defrost ice in fridge and fridge gets cold again. Bottom freezer is cooling fine.
Error Code (if any): No error codes
Parts or tests already tried: All the tests that I have tried, according to the OEM sheet, have passed. The fan in the fridge blows cold air when the test is run AFTER the ice is defrosted. If this is a heater problem I was wondering how many this fridge has and where they are located for replacement if needed. Thanks

Hello Buttcrackrepair, this model would only use a thermistor for the fresh food evaporator. It would not use a defrost heater. With the evaporator freezing up, it would likely be one of two causes. When the evaporator is frozen up, or has been cold for an hour or so, the evaporator thermistor would need to be tested for resistance. With the appliance power cord unplugged and the main control accessed, the pink wire and the light blue wire at connection P8 would be tested when unplugged from the main control. When cold, the thermistor should measure greater than 14K Ohms of resistance. If not, the thermistor is not registering temperature properly. If the thermistor tests good, the main control would be the likely cause of failure.
Well, testing that small plug was fun. Needed 4 hands and two sets of eyes. I believe I got .035 once and I couldn’t get anything after that. Thanks for the suggestion. Ordered the fan motor assy. Will see what happens. Looking forward to tearing this thing apart, yeah, right. Will let you know in a few days. Thanks again
