Use bottled water for dishwasher?

I am just wondering if I can use bottled water for my dishwasher. I have terrible well water. I want to give my wife a nice gift of a dishwasher, but so far have not because of the water. Our old dishwasher basically ruined some of the dishes because of white spots that seemed to imbed themselves in the dishes and won’t come off without a great deal of trouble!

My question:
If I attach a 5 gallon jug of water to the inlet on my dishwasher will the dishwasher pump/pull the water out of the jug? The water in the jug will be static and not pressurized. I am very handy and could do this myself.

Nice! 60 views and not a single answer. Great Forum!

Short answer, it won’t work.

Water comes into a dishwasher under pressure. It can’t pump water into itself, only pump out drain water.

5 gallons wouldn’t even do part of a cycle.

You might look in to a whole house filter to help with minerals in the water. Also always use Jet Dry or something like it to help with spotting.
