Upright freezer cold but won't freeze

Frost freeze upright model, defrosted overnight and stayed warm, thawing food. Thought might be defrost timer stuck so advanced manually and left overnight to test. Next morning compressor running, fan running, freezer cold but not freezing. Small amount of frost build up on coils inside, compressor hot to the touch. Lines from compressor one hot, other room temp. Maybe a defrost thermostat? Or compressor gone bad.:frowning:
Thnaks for any help.

Since the fan and compressor is running and the evaporator coils are not iced/frosted over to the point that the fan cannot pull air through them, it will not be a defrost problem.

Is the compressor running continuously or is it cycling normally.
If it does cycle then it could be a thermostat problem.

With the compressor running it sounds like a sealed system problem.
Is the frost on the evaporator coils even or is it in just one area?
If it is in just one area (usually where the freon enters the coils) then it is a sealed system problem.

A sealed system problem will be an expensive repair as you will need a pro.
Often it makes more sense to put those dollars towards a new unit.
