Unable to remove bottom panel Kenmore Elite Dryer

I bought the dryer 6 yrs ago…replaced the brains 3 yrs ago…now I have not heat…bought a new heat coil and can’t get the bottom panel off…I’ve pushed it up and down and used a long screwdriver to release the sides…NOTHING…please help! It’s been weeks!

Here is the trick. Get a putty knife, and on the top part of the bottom panel, about 5 inches in on the left side is a clip. Push the putty knife inside the clip, and it will release the front on that side. Do the same on the other side. Also when you replace the element, there is a 1/4 inch screw between the two element terminal, that also holds the element in place. When you pull the old element out, hold on to the tube that the elemnt slides into with the other hand. Use a pliers to pull the old one out. It is hard sometimes to pull out. Tom

Thank you so much Tom…I’ll try it now and let you know…wow

Tom..absolutely perfect!!! Thank you…Now the old coil doesn’t want to come out…I see a clamp on the right half way back…how do you suggest I get back there to pinch it?

I usually grab the metal part with a pliers, and be sure you take out the 1/4 inch screw out in between the the two element terminals. Pull hard, and you will have it. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

k…just not sure I have pliers that long…already removed the screw…I’ll try it…thanks

Come on, I know you can do it. Tom applianceeducator.com

I’m actually a blonde female…working w/my blonde daughter! Yikes!

You know what they say, Two heads are better then one, and that includes blondes. I hope you guys got it. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

unfortunately, with all of the pliers we have and basically destroying the ceramic coil holders, I have not found a device that has the length and angle to pinch that clip. I’ll just have to keep trying and destroying. Thank you for all your help. Aside from you handing me pliers or telling me a style that I actually need, I just need to keep trying.

we have a maytag gas dryer and we need to know how to get the front panel off thanks

If you guys have blond hair, you should easily attract men to help. Tom

cute :)…I may rather do it myself or hire someone! But thanks for the adivse!

last night I realized I was the one that brought up the “clip”…I decided to go back to your first response which was “pull and hold on to the tube”…stick w/your first response and forget the clip…2 knuckles and a heat coil later and you were right to begin with…but!!! I see you have responded to someone that they have replaced the coil and still no heat and that unfortunately is my problem…thanks Tom…we’ll move on

Can I take this panel off to clean the lint? OR is there no way lint can be behind that panel? I was trying to clean out all the lint where the filter goes and thought I should clean behind that panel but couldn’t get it off…your instructions will help but I want to make sure there is a need first, so could there be lint behind that panel? Thx Lee

The only way you can clean the dryer is from the front. The back does not come off. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
