 For anyone replacing the motor that has trouble removing the blower from the motor on this model electric dryer count on buying a new blower at the same time. It was impossible to get the blower fan off the motor shaft.
The fan has a 7/8 “plastic nut” formed into the fan. First the nut stripped. Then I tried every way possible to remove the fan but it would not budge. It just kept getting more distorted the more I worked on it.
Not sure but figure the constant heating and cooling of the metal in the nut on the shaft bound it to the shaft. Believe me I cannot remember when I could not get a “nut” off somehow. It is a left turn removal which is indicated on the fan.
The only possible way to get it off would be to smash the blower housing off from around the fan and cut off or smash off the fan leaving just the remnanats of plastic around the nut. Then use a pipe wrench on the plastic remnants while holding the motor shaft from moving.
This really PO’ed me since it was the motor that was bad and now I had to put out an additional $60 for the blower on top of the $110 for the new motor.
Unfortunately this is a common experience.
Two weeks ago I took out the blower/motor assembly and gave it to an assistant to remove the blower. 20 minutes later he came back with a hammer in one hand and blower pieces in the other.
I just finished replacing the motor in my dryer, and had to replace the blower wheel along with it, because I just couldn’t get the old blower wheel to disconnect from the old motor shaft.
I’m pretty sure they purposely make it a cheap plastic nut on the blower wheel so you can’t disconnect the motor shaft from it, and therefore have to buy a new blower wheel too.
This was happening to me to and I didn’t want to make a second trip out to where the dryer was so I used two panhead screws to temporarily fix the blower wheel to its housing and turned the motor shaft with vice grips. It worked well and since the screw holes are tiny and closer to the shaft than the blades of the centrifugal fan nothing blows out.
DAMN! Wish I would have read these first instead of spending 5 hours trying to get the damned thing off!!
