Turntable not turning

The control panel appears to work ok. When I start a cook cycle, the timer counts down, completes the cook cycle, beeps at the end, in short everything behaves like ‘normal’ except the turntable wont turn. food wont heat, and the lamp doesn’t light during the cook cycle. I do hear a bunch of clicks when I start the cook cycle.

Prior to above problem, the microwave used to trip the circuit breaker when the door was opened. After reading through the forum, I diagnosed the problem to a faulty interlock switch which I have since replaced.

I really don’t want to call a GE ‘authorized’ repairman nor do I want to deal with a replacement microwave that matches the existing trim kit :frowning:

Please help!!

Sounds like the problem is a bad secondary interlock switch (the upper one).

Which switch did you replace?

I replaced the top interlock switch (WB24X823). The faulty switch had a short internally (zero ohms always). With the new switch, when door is closed, resistance is infinite while with the door open, it is a few ohms.

There is something wrong with that switch. With the door closed it should read about 0 Ohms, while with the door open it suppose to be ∞.

Hi Gene,

My bad. Mistakenly, I wrote the reverse. It is in fact 0 ohms with door closed and infinite with door open.

Do you think the motor is kaput? Seems surprising esp. since things were working fine before switch went bad.
Thanks for your help thus far.

If there is nothing wrong with the door switch, then the problem most likely is a bad control board.

It turned out to be a faulty flame sensor/thermostat. I replaced that and everything works smoothly right now.

Gene, thanks for your help.

You are welcome. I’m glad you were able to diagnose and fix it.
