The tub seal has to be replaced on my parents washer, the water is leaking from the tub, down the trans. I have worked on a handful of washers over the years but not a Speed Queen. I have some simple questions, some might sound dumb but I just want to cover all my bases before I start. Here goes..
How to get the agitator off?
Any tricks to get to the seal and get it out?
Any special wrench or tool needed?
Any reverse threads or hidden problem areas?
Mainly, is there any links that would show me photos or schematics, I can’t seam to find any info on the this old model.
I know some might say it’s not worth replacing but my Dad seams to think it’s worth his money if he can get another 5 years or so out of it. I don’t think he has the money for a new one. I going to fix it for him. Hopefully a few of you can help, it is much appreciated.
This is the tub seal kit I have been referred to

I hate to discourage anyone from fixing a machine, but run away dude!
I used to fix these back a few years ago and it was never easy or cheap. Nowadays when I run into one of these I quote the customer the price of the parts and the labor and they quickly say, “I’ll just buy a new one.”
I’m not even sure the seals are still available. That company was part of Maytag and they got bought out by Whirlpool.
Personally I’d take the money and put it on a used washer, most top load Whirlpools are pretty decent machines.
I have found the parts for 95.00. my Dad said it is worth it to him, mind you I am doing it for free so I can see where a customer would be better off buying a new one after the repair charges + the parts.
I just want to make this as simple as possable, getting all the info I can from guys like you who have fixed a few.
thanks
Charlie

If your willing to try that’s pretty good. The seal kit should come with a set of instructions. You might need a few special tools, but I know I have done it with a large adjustable wrench and pair of pliers before, so it can be done.
Like I said its been a few years since my last one, so if anybody that has done one recently and would like to step in here and help out that would be great. Other than that, just follow the instructions. Good luck with it.
thanks, I got it. Not to bad since money was no object I just took my time, hung out with the fam.
take care till next time

Do you have any tips or would you like to post some of the things you remember from working on it?
Thanks
