Trouble with Roper Fridge

Hey, I am having a problem with my Roper by Whirlpool fridge. (rt21lmxkq04) When I plug the fridge in, it turns on but it doesn’t cool/freeze. The light in the fridge is on but that’s it. I unscrewed the back to see if I could figure something out but I’m not an expert so I didn’t know what I was looking for.:confused:One thing that I saw was that the fan was not spinning while I left it on for 30 min. If anyone could help I would be so happy.

Thanks

Somebody Help, Please

If the evaporator fan is also not turning, it might be stuck in defrost. On the bottom of the control panel, look for a hole and turn the defrost timer till the compressor starts to run. Part # AP3110896

Hey richappy, I kept turning the defrost timer thing for about 5-10 min but nothing happened should I do it longer. When I turn it I start to hear some clicking sound but nothing starts. Got any other suggestions?

Thanks

Turn the timer till it clicks, then go to the back and check to see if the compressor is trying to start. Also, confirm the condenser and evaporator fans are turning.

Hey sorry for the late reply, but I did what you said “Turn the timer till it clicks, then go to the back and check to see if the compressor is trying to start” but nothing happened. I didn’t hear the compressor make any noise. When I plug the fridge and leave it plugged, both the fans are not spinning.:frowning:
Anything else I should try??

Thanks

You might have a bad defrost timer, or a bad cold control, try tapping on them.

Ya I’ve tried tapping on them but still nothing. How would I know if the defrost timer or the cold control is bad? Would I just have to replace it to know?

You can take off the wires to the cold control, short them and see if the compressor runs.

How would I go about doing that? Would I need one of these testers?

Hey sorry for the late update but I bought a new defrost timer and installed it with no success. I turned the timer till it clicks but still nothing. Do I have to wait like 24hrs or something? Any other suggestions or ideas:confused:

Thanks

Your cold control should click when you turn it off, if not, it’s probably bad, just short the wires going to it to confirm.

Hey, when you say “my cold control should click when I turn it off,” does that mean when I turn the actual knob off? Also when you say short the wires do I need that tool that I posted a pic off? Sorry i’m not the skilled person at this. But thanks for helping me. I’m thinking that I might have to get a new thermostat. idk??

Hey, so I ordered a new thermostat and my fridge is now fully functional with my old timer in it. Thanks to richappy for helping me out.
