Trane heatpump not making heat!

Have a Trane heat pump outside…that is running…and not iced up at all..but no heat is being generated. Earlier today, I was tracing down an electrical short in the 24volt thermostat wiring in the heat pump..and found and fixed it..but in the course of all this..there was a point where the wire that goes from the circuit board to the contact unit…was touching the outside of a large capacitor next it…and sparking a bit. Could this have made it impossible for the heat pump to generate heat? Also rewired up the in house thermostat, but am pretty darn sure i did all of it right. Any advice?

Check to see if the suction line on the system is hot - if it is, then the compressor outside is doing its job.

You also have heat strips as a second stage on that system. With both the heat pump and heat strips working you should have a supply air temp of around 119 degrees depending on the return air temp.

If the supply air temp is below 90 or 80 degrees, then the heat strips are not engaged to operate.
