Timer Does Not Advance

Brand: Maytag
Model Number:MDG2301BWW Serial Number: 10583568AP
Main Symptom: Timer not advancing on “Regular Auto Dry”
What happens & when: Timer does not advance on “Regular Auto Dry” but does advance on “Time Dry Air Fluff” There is heat on both settings. I have replaced the Timer with a new Timer (part # WP33001624) and also replaced the Operating Thermostat (with a new Operating Thermostat (part # WP307250). I got both new parts from you. After installing the new parts - The Timer would still not advance. You sent me another new Timer which I installed. The same problem still persists - Timer does not advance on “Regular Auto Dry” but does advance on “Time Dry Air Fluff” There is heat on both settings. Note that there is no temperature sensor on this dryer. Also, please note that the Gas Valve Coils are relatively new - I installed new coils on 10/10/24. Also note that the Exhaust System is clean and vents correctly to the outside of the house. The dryer operated correctly until November of this year when the Timer stopped advancing in the “Regular Auto Dry” setting.

Using a multimeter check the temperature switch and check for power to the timer motor. If the temp switch is faulty or if the temp switch is not set correctly, this or the cycling thermostat could cause this issue.

Hello Sir, Hi Brad, Thank you for your answer. I will check into that temperature switch. I think the timer motor is ok because the “Timer” does work correctly in the “Time Dry Air Fluff” setting. Also, I have also already replaced the "Timer” 2 times, and I have also already replaced the cycling thermostat. I guess that only leaves the temperature switch. I will get back to you about that temperature switch after I check it out.
Thank You again Your help is very much appreciated.

Hello again, I cannot find a “temp switch” on my unit, but my unit does have a “thermal fuse” (part # WP33001762). Is this the part that you are referring to? If “yes”- am I to check for continuity between the 2 terminals that are on the “thermal fuse”? Could there exist continuity, but the part is still bad? Do you recommend that I replace the “thermal fuse” even if it has continuity? Thank you again for your help!!

Temp switch is in the console number 14 in this parts list below. here is the parts Temperature Switch 33001643 – Appliance Depot

Thank You bigbuck1 I really appreciate your help. Just to make sure - Is this the selector for choosing regular, low, or air fluff?

Yes it is in the console! NLA.Ebay has one if that the problem and the link above.

There is a temperature switch listed in the parts list for your model. Unfortunately, it has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available for purchase. It is unlikely to be thermal if it has continuity.

see item#14 in the parts list.

Thank You BigBuck1, I ordered the part from Appliance Depot. I very much appreciate the links you provided. I did not know about Appliance Depot - so that info was super great! I’ll let you know how things work out when the part arrives.

Hi Brad, Thank you for your help. I was able to order a used part.

I just received my replacement temperature switch. It is an exact replacement. I have installed it on the dryer. The Timer will still not advance. Same problem - Timer does not advance on “Regular Auto Dry” but does advance on “Time Dry Air Fluff”. Is there anything else I can check or replace? So far I have replaced the timer (new part WP33001624) 2 times, I have replaced the cycling thermostat (new part WP307250) and just now replaced the temperature control switch (used part 33001643) . The used part was tested and said to be ok by Appliance Depot. Can you advise on how to bench test the Temperature Control Switch. I did check for continuity between the blue and red terminals before installing the switch. I do have continuity between the blue and red terminals. Thank you for your help!!
