Is the Timer advancing past the stops or off positions? Does the dryer itself continue to run when this is going on?

Also, I’m attaching an instruction sheet that was specifically for replacing the original timer 3391658 with the new timer WP3398190. Can you verify that the new timer is wired as described in this sheet?

Rory thank you for your assistance. Very much appreciated. I will take the back off and confirm the wiring connections. it would have been helpful if these instructions were included in the box with the new switch. the timer advances all the way but doesnt get to the off position and the dryer keeps running.

Rory I uploaded a picture of the new installed timer and the old one next to it. everything appears to be wired correctly on the timer. based on my responses to your questions and the picture, what do you suggest as a next step?

That almost sounds like a bad timer out of the box.

2 things before we go that route:

What was the original reason for replacing the timer?

If you disconnect the Red and Orange wires from the timer and take a resistance reading across those 2 wires, what reading do you get? It should be in the 4k-5kΩ range.

I spoke to one of your techs and described the issue I was having and she suggested buying a new timer. Originally when i spoke to her i was getting no heat and the dryer was not shutting off. i replaced the components mentioned above and now i have heat but it wont shut off. to be clear, the parts i replaced were also the heater, the thermal fuse and the cycling thermostat. another tech suggested a new door switch which i also replaced.

I had the same issue when my Speed Queen timer burnt up and I had to replace it. The issue was that I did not wire up the timer correctly when I replaced it. It became necessary for me to find the wiring diagram and reconnect the wires to the proper timer terminals. Normally, the wiring diagram is found inside the housing where the timer and the other controls are. I have removed mine and keep it in a protective sleeve for protection and reference. If you take some time and read it, you can trace every connection to every component and see how they relate to each other.

The diagram will specify the color coding of each wire and the timer will have lettering on it that correspond to the lettering on the diagram. Just connect the correct colored wire to the correct terminal and you should be good to go.
