My washer fills but will not stop the filling cycle it just keeps filling up and up and up
any ideas
we have tried changeing the fill selection to small loads and it just keeps filling

Sounds like the water level control is shot.
Especially if turning the unit off or unplugging it stops the water flow.
This tells you that the water valves themselves are OK.
The way it works is, it is a pressure switch.
It has a tube that runs to the bottom of the tub.
Water rises in this tube as the washer fills, this increases the air pressure in the tube.
When the pressure reaches the set point a switch activates, this turns the water off and begins the agitate cycle.
So the problem is

Not quite sure what you mean. The switch is part of the level control.
You did not include a Model Number so I could not look for a wiring diagram.

could it be the fill settting switch is bad?
