Testing heating element

My dryer has stopped heating.
I just replaced the thermal fuse, but it was not the problem. I used a digital meter and tested all connectors. They all showed activity but the heating element. I am not sure if I am testing continuity correctly though. I placed on the 200 on the ohms section. When I thouched the thermastat it showed .4.
Thanks

Sounds like you are testing the parts correctly and the heater is shot.
If the heater was good it should measure about 10 ohms.

A couple points when measuring ohms.

  1. Remove the connection/wire to at least one side of any part you are measuring. This prevents you from reading an alternate/parallel circuit path.
  2. When you start it is a good idea to short the meter leads together. This shows that the meter actually works and if there is a 0 offset.

Thank you. I have ordered a new element and will hope for the best.
