TE error on Samsung front loading washer

Main Symptom: tE error
What happens & when: tE shows almost right away (about 10 seconds after power on) even with no wash cycle started. Replaced the thermistor but still same error. Washer is slightly used and only about 10 years old. All the wires look good. Is there any way to bypass this check? definitely the water is not too hot. :volcano:

On this Samsung WF363BTBEUF/A2, the fact that tE appears about 10 seconds after simply powering the washer on, without starting a cycle, is an important clue. The technical sheet defines tE as abnormal temperature-sensor resistance/input, including either the thermal sensor circuit or the PBA/control-board input.

I would not bypass the thermistor permanently. The control board needs to see a valid thermistor signal, and defeating that protection could allow uncontrolled heating. But you can diagnose the circuit pretty quickly.

What I would check next

1. Check the thermistor from the control-board end, not at the thermistor.

Unplug the washer. Disconnect the thermistor connector at the PCB and measure resistance through the entire circuit—thermistor + harness.

This is important because wires on these machines can look perfect externally but be broken internally, particularly near connectors or flex points. There are reports of exactly this type of Samsung tE problem being traced to a loose/broken thermistor harness conductor.

While watching the meter, wiggle the harness and connectors. If resistance suddenly goes open/infinite, you’ve found it.

2. Check CN3 at the control board.

The WF361/WF363 technical information specifically gives a thermistor check at CN3 pins 1 and 2. With the machine powered, the specified tester reading is approximately 2.7 VDC. The service information says that if you see approximately 5 V, check whether the connector is properly engaged.

:warning: That is a live-voltage test, so don’t do it unless you’re comfortable safely working around an energized appliance.

3. Use Board Input Test to see what temperature the board thinks it sees.

Samsung specifically directs a tE complaint to Board Input Test → Water Temperature.

That can be very revealing. If the washer is sitting at room temperature but the board reports an absurd temperature, you know this isn’t actually a hot-water problem—the board isn’t receiving/interpreting the thermistor signal correctly.

Most likely possibilities in your case

Since you’ve already installed a thermistor, I’d rank them:

Harness/connector problem → bad replacement thermistor/wrong part → main PCB thermistor-input circuit.

And because your tE appears before a cycle even starts, I would not spend time investigating the heater or incoming hot-water temperature yet. The machine is detecting an invalid temperature/resistance signal during its initial electronics checks.

One especially useful test: measure the thermistor resistance at the sensor, then measure it again at the PCB connector. Those readings should essentially match. If they don’t, you’ve proven the harness/connector is the problem even though all the wires visually look good.

If they do match, and CN3 is properly connected but the board immediately throws tE, I’d become quite suspicious of the main PCB/PBA input circuit. Samsung’s own tE description specifically includes PBA resistance as a possible cause
