Tappan self cleaning electric range - oven won't stay on

I have a Tappan self cleaning electric range in my duplex. -I am sorry, I do not have the model number. It is a very basic apartment model. (my guess is: Tappan 30-in Freestanding 4-Element 5.3 cu ft Self-Cleaning Electric Range from Lowe’s)
Recently, when I turn on the oven, it comes on and begins to warm up, but after 5-10 minutes it turns off and the digital display on the top turns of, turning the oven off with it.
If I fiddle around with the top display, it seems I can get the display to come back on. It acts like there is a short somewhere.
Is there a part in the display that needs to be replaced?

What do you mean by fiddle?

More likely an open.
If you use a light switch as an example.
A short is the switch is on.
An open is the switch is off.

Cannot say without a model number.

Could be a bad connection, a cold solder joint or a bad timer/control board.
