We have a Tappan electric range with a self-cleaning oven, Model No. 31-5592-23/01. On the panel, the word, locked, lights up and appears for a second and reappears periodically. We also hear a timer or fan running. This stops when the oven door is open. We are unable to set the oven to clean, broil or bake; the temperature control settings do not hold. We pressed cancel but it does not cancel the locked oven door problem nor does unplugging the range and waiting a half hour. The stove burners are manual and work fine. We have an Owner’s Guide but not a manual. What part do we need to purchase to fix it? What self help instructions are available?

You should start by,
Remove the back panel from the range, or remove the cooktop and burner box base,
Check the wiring , switches, and actuator rod on the self clean door lock motor, located between the burner box base and oven insulation on the back end of the range.
If the switches, wires, or actuator rod is damaged, etc, it will mis inform the control and make it think the door is locked for the self clean cycle,
That’s were I’d start,
I’ve attached some part numbers and diagrams for a visual reference, and some of the possible parts needed
