My washer started making a banging sound during spin cycle the other day. I took it apart and saw the brake cam driver was broken. So I ordered a clutch set, installed it this evening and to my amazement it still was making this horrible sound…
I checked the brake and it was good, I turned the transmission and no clunking.. I decided to take apart the transmission to find out what was going on since that was the only place I haven’t looked. The nylon gear was shreaded… About half of the gear was smooth as paper. So I know I need a new gear/pinion or a new washer
My question is how would the gear get destroyed? I understand failures etc but if I replace this gear will it most likely happen again? Also I wanted to note that the top cover of the transmission had a ring in it from the gear, so basically it was rubbing the top. I have cleaned the transmission and the only thing I see besides the gear is minor wear on the washers/springs but I would consider it normal.
Any help would be great!
P.s. I would just buy a whole new transmission but ever since I bought this washer it has had problems, I cannot tell you how many times the repair guy has come to fix it, and now that the extended, extended, extended warranty is out it is up to me  So needless to say I cannot wait till the day I use this washer for target practice. lol
