Stove will not heat

My stove will not heat. The display will come on, but it NEVER gets hot. Both bake and broil will not work.

I think my stove has only one heating element in the top of the oven?? Is that correct?
Do you think that is what needs to be replaced??

Please help.

Needheat,

If neither of the oven elements heat, your problem is most likely, a power problem.

If your cooktop burners work, you most likely have a damaged wire or bad ERC/Clock to the oven elements.

Your bake element is “hidden”.
It is located under the bottom panel of the oven cavity.

If you can get access to a multi meter, you can check voltage to the elements,

AP5641753

You could use either element to test for voltage,

*** Turn off power to the range ***

Remove the two screws holding the element to the oven wall,

Slide the element out of the wall, until the wire terminals are clearly visible, and not touching any metal.

Program a bake or broil setting.

Check each of the terminals to chassis ground for 120 VAC.

Check across both terminals for 240 VAC.

If you have 240 VAC across the two terminals, then you have a bad element.

If you 120 VAC or 0 volts, we have a problem in the wiring or ERC.

You can also slide the range out from the wall, remove the back panel and check for loose or broken wires to the elements, as a preliminary check,

When ever you’re working or moving that range, turn the power off at the breaker panel.
