Stove Top - burner stays on

several of the burners stay on constant even when switch is set to low. sometimes when setting is set to low of 6 for example, the burner will stay at low or six, but after a while it turn itself to high…by that time my chicken is toast. is it the switch or the burners?. i have two sections that this is happening to. Also, the 2500W burner goes on half circle only, when on high…i’m guessing its the burner in this case? Please help.
