stops cooling after a couple hours???

I have this in the garage and thought maybe a mouse made a nest and made some thing over heat, but nothing. If I unplug it for a while then plug it back in (maybe the next day) it starts cooling and freezing then at some point it just stops, no more fan noise. This may be a repeat question, but any help would be appreaciated… Bryan:confused:

Is it completely silent? Does it click?

Is the compressor warm on touch?

What is the temperature in the garage?

Yes it is silent, with no clicking. I did not check the compressor temp, thats what I thought, maybe the compresser had a mouse nest in it and overheated causing it to shut down but it was clean, could maybe the the cooling fan on the compressor not be cooling? The garage temp is now in the 50’s but when this first happened we were going into the cold winter months.

I had the same problem. My refrigerator would stop every 6 to 8 hours. So I unplugged the power cord. After an hour or so, I plugged the power cord back in and it worked fine, however, it only worked for a few hours. And this was how I kept everything cool, by unplugging and plugging the power. I had the problem fixed by replacing the two thermostats. Evidently, the defective thermostat prevented the frig from going into the defrost cycle because there was a build-up of ice where the drain pipe and coil is located. The repair guy defrosted the ice with a hair dryer and replaced all the parts. About 3 weeks later, I had a problem with an accumulation of ice build up in back of the freezer drawer. What happened was this: The repair guy defrosted the ice on the coil, etc., but the drain pipe still had ice in it. So even though everything worked fine, the defrosted ice would not drain. Fortunately, I observed how the parts were removed from the freezer and defrosted the drain. That was a year ago and no problems since. Hope this helps.

It could happen because of low ambient temperature.
