Spin Cycle Cuts Out

Washing machine runs through cycle. Gets to spin cycle, begins and cuts off after 5 seconds or so. Checked clutch, brake and everything seems fine and free. Pump is not clogged. I am thinking it may be timer related, but timer unit is sealed with no apparent scorch or burn marks. Any thoughts on how to approach problem? Thanks!

When it stops spinning, is the motor still running or is it silent? If silent, does the timer continue advancing on it’s own?

Thanks for response! No motor stops. Sometimes it will start up a little later then cut out again after starting to spin for 5 seconds or so. Also I can jiggle the machine turn he the dial, pull it out at spin setting, and if will start for five secs and cut out!

Try it with cabinet removed and lid switch bypassed. If it still cuts out, try it with motor removed and sitting on floor. Place your foot on the motor when starting the machine. If it still cuts out, replace the timer.

Installed new timer. In all cycles and actions (wash, spin, etc) the motor runs for several seconds then cuts out. After a minute or so, motor will start up again and cut out, on and on. Motor spins freely and is not bound up. Please help! Thnx!

Could be a bad connection, broken wire or faulty motor. You need to get somebody with electrical troubleshooting skills to look at it. Easy with wiring diagram and multimeter in hand, not easy to explain to diy’er over this forum.
