Sparks! Foam Protecting Lint Cover / White Purple Wires

Kenmore Soft Touch

I tried to clean my dryer out. I removed the outer back cover and then tried to remove the cover off the lint trap and fan. It was stuck with some foam glue material. I pulled off part of it thinking it was lint and then stopped. Is it okay to open this up to clean it out?

My other problem is that I tried to install a new vent and when I opened the dryer up there was a white and purple wire connected to a plastic black shaped circle laying inside the body.

I tried installing the vent and I did a test run and there were sparks. I think the white and purple part might of hit the metal vent. I turned off the dryer and unplugged it.

I’m wondering where this white and purple plastic part is suppose to sit in the dryer.

The loose black part you show should be mounted under the thermostat which is on the blower assembly.
It is a heater and is turned on when you set the unit to lower heat settings.
It adds heat to the main thermostat causing it to cycle more and resulting in less heat output from the main heater.

I am not sure what the glue/foam is. Might be a bit of the seal that is between the lint trap housing and the back of the dryer drum assembly.

Note your model number is incomplete so I guessed and added a 110. at the front. I think this is the correct unit (110.86864100).
If you go to the Sears Parts site they have part breakdown diagrams that should be helpful to you.
