One of the solid element burners is overheating…or should we say, when used, that burner heats up the entire stove top, as hot as the burner. We are now afraid of a fire on this otherwise great 1988 old electric stove kept for its canning abilities. Any ideas. Have ordered new burner thinking might be insulator in burner element. Help!
Your model number is invalid give us an good model number for an answer.
That is Whirlpool model: RF367BXPWO [the original provided as being correct for the Almond color … the next to the last letter represents color, in this case being “N” instead of “W”, being for White color. Per Whirlpool Parts Manual: http://www.whirlpool.com/digitalassets/MLPDF/Repair%20Part%20List%20-%20884242.pdf
Thanks!
Please rephrase your heating of the cooktop comment with more clarity…are you referring to the cooktop getting hot also or are you saying all the heat elements turn on when you turn on one of your elements? Best thing to do pull out element and try it on another section…if the element works fine on another switch location then it’s ok and replace the element switch…make sure you order the correct switch there is different kinds for different sized elements on your range. Go to sears parts website for schematics and how to identify which switch you need. Good luck

Thanks, HRM. When turning on only one specific 8" front burner, the entire enameledportion of the stove tops becomes almost as hot as that particular burner.

Now, a second front 6" burner, is doing the same thing, over heating the stove top. The enameledblank portion of the stove top becomes hot enough to cook on.

The other twoback burners, 1-8" and 1-6" appear to be operating normally … at this point.
