My Magic Chef oven, 5610-3KLX, about 21 years old, has suddenly started smoking. I have cleaned out everything, and it continues. I wonder if after this many years anything would happen to the metal above the oven burner that would make it suddenly “burn” the metal and cause the smoking. The smell from the burning isn’t the same as food burning, but more “toxic” smelling. Any thoughts?
Remove the floor from oven and check for a grease built up.
The model number you provided is incorrect or is too old - it does not come up.
Gene.
I removed the “floor” metal, and it doesn’t smoke with it out. It doesn’t seem like there is much of any buildup on it. But, I got some EasyOff and applied it. It didn’t have much effect. I put it back in the oven and turned it on, and the smoke was worse than ever.
Dose it have the broiler section under the oven?
If it does, check there.
Gene.
Yes, the broiler is under the oven. I pulled it and cleaned it. And, when the oven “floor” is removed, and I turn it on with the broiler all in place, it doesn’t smoke. So it definately seems to be in that floor pan section. I will try more OvenOff on it, though there is hardly anything to get “off”.
