If there is anyone that might be able to give some knowledge on how I can re-tighten the freezer side handle on my Whirlpool Gold GS5SHAXNL00, I would be thankful. I have a side by side and the handle on the refrigerator side is fine but the lower part of the freezer side handle is lose and pulls away from the freezer door a bit. I need to know how I am to tighten it back up? Do I have to completely remove the freezer door gasket to get to some screws? Or can I get to the screws that hold the door handle on through the bottom some way?
Thanks in advance for any and all help!
GOD Bless,

Take a look at Section 6, you will see that the handle is held on by clips.
The clip is bolted to the door and then the bolt on the handle slips into the clip’s slot.
Pull the handle outward while also moving it up and it should come loose from the clip.
Be careful not to scratch the door finish.
Once off you will have to determine if the clip has come loose or if the bolt on the handle has to be tightened.
Thanks a ton Danman, it worked like a charm! Great Help!

we have the same problem but ours is a 2008 Whirlpool stainless steel side by side and the loose handle is on refrigerator side on top. We tried to slide it upward with downward pressure but will not come off…any other suggestions? Model # ED2GVEXVDOO (which web site said it could not find results to that number) But we have looked over the number to insure we had it correct
The unit does come up at AppliancePartsPros.
I think your problem was with the OO (letters) at the end of the model number. It should be zerozero
Below is the clip that holds it on.

Click on the picture for more info on it.
Some times sliding a putty knife, old credit card or thin/stiff cardboard in under the handle will help the little spring clip clear the screw head on the door.
Can take a bit of fiddling to get it off.
Just be careful to not scratch your door.
