See Photo - is this supposed to be there?

My dishwasher hasn’t been draining well, could be unrelated, but after pulling out racks and filters I found that in the hole marked with the red arrow there is a white plastic item marked with green arrow which might be the problem. Is this supposed to be there? How can I remove it? I have a parts diagram but don’t know how to disassemble to get there. Your help much appreciated !

That piece definitely does not belong to the dishwasher. Looks like it got stock in the wash pump impeller. I’m afraid the pump has to be removed from the dishwasher.

Gene,

Is removing the pump something I could do, do you think, if I’m fairly handy?

The dishwasher has to be removed from the cabinet and the right side panel has to be removed in order to access the pump. The instructions are attached to the reply.

Gene,

Thank you so much, this is exactly what I needed. I will try this tomorrow and let you know what happens. I really appreciate your help !

Charley:)

Gene,

I went ahead last night. I pulled-out the dishwaaher and took off the right-hand side cover, disconnected the wires from the pump and the rubber hold-downs, depressed the latch and turned the pump clockwise but could not get enough leverage on it to turn it enough and remove it. However, before giving up, I checked to see if the piece that was stuck in the impeller was now easier to remove from inside the dishwasher and it was. Turns out to be a small piece of broken ceramic from a plate.

I will go ahead and run dishes today and hopefully everything will work better now.

Thanks for your help, Gene ! I really apreciate it.

Charley
