Can I use the water dispenser secondary water valve to input water to the ice maker for this fridge. I just replace the ice maker… and found out there is no water going in the ice maker. Since we are not using the fridge water dispenser I thinking swapping the valve… also since we are not using the fridge water… do i still need to replace the fridge water filter?
I do not think you can swap the water valves because the tubes for ice maker and water dispenser are different. You can use the system without the water filter if you have a bypass plug which should be installed instead of the filter.
I would order the part… do you know if the water to the ice maker is coming after it pass thru the fridge water filter? I dont know if i need to change the filter cause we are not getting water from the fridge anyway..
Yes, the water goes through the water filter first and then goes to the ice maker and water dispenser. The water filter removes odor and a lot of a different unwanted parts of the tap water. I do not think you need them in the ice cubes as well as in the drinking water. You can order the new filter for about $35 and this not much money for at least six months protection.
Disconnect the water inlet tube from the secondary water valve and put it in a bucket. Swap the wires between the solenoids on the primary water valve. Depress the water dispenser lever and see if the water will come out. If it would, replace only the secondary water valve. If not, replace both.
