Seal on Chest Style Freezer

Our freezer is accumulating ice and it tends to climb over the edge between the chest and the seal. Is the seal supposed to have a magnetic feeling when you try to open the freezer? Ours does not. If we need to put in a new seal is it an easy project or do we need special tools to do this.

Very likely the problem is a bad door gasket. This part is not too difficult to replace yourself and do not need any special tools, just a screwdriver. Remove the freezer door and put it on a flat surface. Loosen the screws around the inner door panel and pull out the old gasket. Put in the new gasket. Remount door and tape door shut for several hours to let the gasket form all around.
