Samsung Washer Giving Error Codes 4E and LE

Brand: Samsung
Model Number: WF42H5200AF/A2
Main Symptom: Giving Error Codes 4E and LE
What happens & when: The following is from the Samsung Care App for the 4E and LE Codes:
Code 4E - Check the drainage system
Operation Status: Progress: Rinsing, Water
Diagnosis: Check the water draining system.

Code LE - Check for a water leak
Operation Status: Progress: Washing, Stir
Diagnosis: Check if water leaks in the water supply or drain system.

A couple things I have noticed while troubleshooting:

  • I have noticed a small amount of water sits at the back of the drum.
  • When I would start new cycles it seemed to still have to drain water before it began the new cycle.
  • If I remember right, I think I did the Drain Only cycle a few times back-to-back and it seemed to still have water to drain each time, even when no new water was added.

I will start directly with my current question: Should the Washer Check Valve (Part Number DC62-00299A) open and close freely? I know the water pressure would push it open to flow out, but when I had that assembly out I noticed I have to push the flap in order for it to close back up. Photos for reference:

To try to solve the error codes I have done several things; the ones I can think of at the moment are:

  • Checked for visible leaks; there were none.
  • Checked all the hoses and made sure they aren’t clogged.
  • Checked the mesh filters at the inlet hoses.
  • Made sure the drain hose isn’t siphoning.
  • Replaced the water pressure sensor; inspected the hose.
  • Used multi-meter on the pressure sensor, and the inlet valve solenoids.
  • Checked the drain filter for any clogs; none.
  • Checked that the filter pump impeller was free of debris.
  • I also attempted to do a calibration a few times between checks and test runs.

Please tell me what else it could be, or I should troubleshoot. I need this washer to stay alive longer.

Are you seeing water at the back of the drum even if the washer has been off for an hour after draining?

@WilliamM_APP_Team thanks for the reply. I haven’t paid attention to that other than right after the codes. But, now that you mention it I did pour some boiling water in the drum at one time to have it run though the drainage part and left it there for a bit. I don’t think it was a full hour but there was still some water sitting in there when I came back. What would cause that?

This is likely going to be a water valve leaking by. Does the water feel warmer or cooler? This can help identify if it is the cold water or the hot water valve.

It felt warmer at that moment, but I don’t know if it was because I had done a quick wash with warm water. What things should I check at the inlets?

Since it’s likely a valve leaking by, here’s a test to pinpoint which inlet valve is failing:

  1. Turn off the hot water supply but leave the cold water supply on after the water is drained out.

    • If the tub still fills, even slowly, then the cold inlet valve is leaking.

    • If the tub doesn’t fill at all, the cold valve is fine and the hot inlet valve is the one leaking.

Here are links to each valve.

Thank you. I will test that out. Thanks for the links as well.
