Samsung upgraded door latch doesn’t work

I have an older Samsung dishwasher Model DW80J3020UW/AA

The latch is broken, and I am trying to replace it. The original latch is part DD81-01629A. But it’s not made anymore and Samsung’s site says this part is the upgraded version- DD81-02132A

I purchased one from a local appliance store. It’s not OEM. When I installed it, the door kind of latches, but the door is loose. Also, the dishwasher lights come on, but will not start.

I had this problem a year ago. I had to find a used original OEM part. That one worked

Is there anything I can do to get the new version to work? Anything with the metal latch receiver? It doesn’t seem that there is a new latch receiver out there. Thanks!

From what I can find, the updated door latch (DD81-02132A) should be compatible when used with the door strike DD61-00175A. You can view the door strike using the link below:

That said, I do see that your original latch (DD81-01629A) has been discontinued, and the updated version is designed for dishwasher models manufactured December 2016 or later. That could be why you’re experiencing a looser fit and startup issues when using the replacement.

If you haven’t already, try the following:

  1. Turn off power to the dishwasher.
  2. Remove the front door panel to access the latch assembly.
  3. Check for continuity across the latch switch when the door is fully closed.

Is there continuity when the door is closed or does it read OL? Let us know what you find—we’re happy to help troubleshoot further from there!

Hi!

The updated part seems like it’s fine it just didn’t work on my dishwasher. It’s like they overlooked my model when they upgraded the part.

I found an OEM-like part on eBay. It’s the same part as the original. It works fine now.

I forgot that I replaced this part over a year ago as well and had the same problem with the upgraded part. (I can’t believe I forgot that)

So just reporting here that the upgraded part does not work and I don’t see anything anywhere with an example of it working. Just the original. I have half a mind to buy a couple of these for the future.
