If the temperature display itself is showing indistinct, missing, or partially lit numbers, and you cannot reliably change the temperature settings, this is almost always a display/user interface (UI) problem, not a cooling problem.
Start with a hard reset
- Unplug the refrigerator or turn the breaker off.
- Leave it off for 5 minutes.
- Restore power and see if the display returns to normal. Samsung recommends a power cycle as the first step for display issues.
Check for stored error codes
On the RF263AEBP, press and hold Power Freeze and Power Cool together for 8–10 seconds until the display flashes and chimes. If an error code is stored, it will be displayed.
Most likely causes (in order)
- Failed display/user interface board (Most Likely)
- Missing or faint display segments.
- Buttons don’t respond consistently.
- Cooling may continue normally even though the display is unreadable.
- Loose or damaged wiring
- Check the harness between the display panel and the main cabinet.
- Inspect for corrosion or a connector that has worked loose.
- Main control board
- Less common than the display board.
- Suspect this only if the display resets briefly after power-up, multiple functions act erratically, or communication errors are present.
A few questions that will narrow it down:
- Is the refrigerator still cooling normally in both the refrigerator and freezer?
- Are the display numbers dim, missing segments (like part of an “8”), or flickering?
- Do any of the touch buttons respond?
- After the 5-minute power reset, does the display look normal for a few seconds before becoming distorted again?
Those answers will determine whether you’re dealing with a failed display assembly or a communication/control board issue.
When I pressed the power freeze and power cool buttons together, it chimed and then the numbers showed correctly! Problem solved?
Let it run overnight. It may have just needed to reset. Check the temperature tonight b4 bed and again in the morning to make sure everything is operating properly
