I went on vacation for two weeks and when I returned, my fridge door was open model # RS2544SL - Samsung. I looked in and the back bottom panel was pushed out and cracked. It pushed the shelves and drawers out and adjarred the door. I am not sure what happened. I defrosted it, took it apart. There is what is listed as (1) assy water tank (Part Number: AP3830295 made by MAYTAG) and (2) Evap ref (WHIRLPOOL AP4139701 - EVAP REF) back there. Can anyone tell me what happened? With the damage that has occured, is this worth fixing or should I be looking for a new refrigerator? I see that some of the seals listed as parts have notes that indicate “requires special attention”. Can anyone with experience lend me some advice? I am not sure how extensive this may be to fix.
Thanks for the brief reply. I take it from your response that there is considerable damage to the unit and as such it is not worth repairing, yes? This refrigerator came with the house when I purchased it. I try not to add to the landfills so trying to save this unit and help mother earth is my first choice, but if that is not possible or feasible then I would be happy to buy american. If anyone else has some recommendations here I would appreciate any additional input.
My comment was twofold in meaning: Samsung makes just as fine a machine as any other importer; however, they are not made for simple service. If the damage on your machine is as bad as you described, Mother Earth won’t appreciate the number of trees sacrificed in the paper spent on a repair.
American brands like Whirlpool and GE are still made for service.
