Roper Top-Loader Wont Complete Large Load

Hi!

Sorry, I dont see the model #, but I have a basic top loading Roper washing machine (small/x-large load selector and main dial only, 4 cycle/2 speed)

It works perfectly fine on a small load. But, now whenever its on the XL load, it seems to get stuck on the rinse cycle. It just sits there seemingly filling and draining at the same time…indefinitely.

Starting/stopping it doesnt change anything. Setting it to Small load and starting it makes it finish.

Any ideas what I should be looking at?

Is there any functional difference between a small and large load besides the water level? And if not, I’m guessing there’s some kind of water level switches?

Thanks!

The most likely explanation is that when the machine is set on large load it fills with enough water to create a siphon on the drain hose.

Check where the drain hose enters the drain pipe and see if it is not somehow sealed or if the drain hose is too far down into the drain pipe.

Wow. Such a simple (cost free) solution!

Looks like the drain hose was too far down the drain pipe. Pulled it out halfway and put a small plastic spring clamp on it to keep it from sliding back down.

Working like a champ now.

Thanks sidfink43! I never would have thought of that.

Wow, great, glad that fixed it, and thanks for the update.
