Roper Top-load Washer has Loud Spin with Vibration

Brand: Roper
Model Number: RTW4340SQ0
Main Symptom: Loud Spin with Vibration
What happens & when: Spin cycle

Error Code (if any):

Parts or tests already tried: Getting a lot of vibration and noise in the spin cycle; other cycles seem to be OK. The spin still functions, and if I place a lot of weight on top of the washer it removes the vibration. Replaced both snubber and base pads, which maybe helped a little with the noise but not the vibration. The coupler was fine. I do not see any broken springs. Self-leveling mechanism seems OK. Appreciate any advice, thanks!

Hi hhogan, have you checked the spring brackets that go around the tub? Sometimes these can come loose and are easily missed. It could also be an issue with the suspension ring. I would do a thorough inspection underneath the tub and make sure all of the springs, brackets, and the suspension ring are properly installed and not loose, damaged, or missing. Hi Jose, I did check the spring brackets (removed/reattached to check the motor). None of the springs are loose, damaged, or missing, but after 20 years and a LOT of laundry, is it possible they simply have metal fatigue and are what is causing this issue? I am not sure from just popping them on/off exactly how much tension they should have. Thanks again.

Hi hhogan4life,

It could simply be wear and tear after so many years. I would first make sure the tub nut is not loose. If it has been loose for a while, it could have damaged the drive block as well. Another possibility is that the suspension pads have worn out over time.

If all three tub support springs are intact and the spring that connects the top rear of the tub to the washer frame is still in place, I would definitely check for the other symptoms I’ve listed above. Those components are common causes of excessive movement and out-of-balance issues on these washers
