Roper Spin Cycle

I have had this washing machine for almost 10 years. My wife told me the other day that the clothes seem to be wet after the spin cycle. She did another bunch of loads, but smaller loads to see if the clothes would be less wet. She still noticed the clothes were wet and we had to run the dryer longer. The machine goes through the cycles. I watched the machine go though the rinse cycle, it fills the tub up to the correct level, then agitates. Then the machine drains the water correctly. Then the machine goes into a spin cycle. This is where I am not sure if this is correct or not. I cannot find any info about what the spin cycle does. The machine will get up to speed, then the cold water line turns on for about 3-4 sec, then shuts off. The machine continues to spin, then about 30 sec later the machine turns on the cold water again for 3-4 sec. Then the machine continues on with the spin cycle. Is this normal? I have never looked at the machine during the spin cycle because we have never had an issue with is.

Yes, it’s normal for this washer to do a spray function a couple times during the first 2 minutes of final spin. It should not do it during the last 4 minutes of spin. You may have a worn clutch or weak clutch spring that won’t allow the basket to get up to normal full speed during spin. Remove the agitator and gearcase to inspect the clutch. If you hold the clutch hub and can easily rotate the clutch band within the hub with your finger, then it needs to be replaced.

Eric,

I will do that, quick question before I take it apart, do you know what the RPM of the spin cycle is?

Should be about 650rpm. We use a laser tachometer to check this.

Eric

Eric,

I wanted to give you an update. When you said 650 rpm, I could tell the machine was not spinning at that rate. I took apart the clutch assembly. I was able to turn the clutch band. I was able to get one today. I followed the instructions from the video and put the new clutch assembly on. I watched the machine do the spin cycle, and wow I can tell it is spinning a whole bunch faster. I am running a load of clothes at this moment, but I can tell that fixed the problem. Thanks for the advice.
