Door strike is broken and broken part is in door do we need to remove broken piece before replacing the strike

Sorry. Do you mean the broken off piece is inside the door latch not inside the door?

In your case I recommend to replace the door latch also.I know it’s much more $ but the chance that you will damage it trying to remove the broken piece is very grate.
