Resetting a Quiet Partner 3

I have a problem with my Quiet Partner 3 from Whirlpool.

I’m not completely clueless to repairing things around the house (the lawn mower, the kitchen sink, the toliet)… but I’ve never really dealt with large appliances so if you can help me, I need detailed help. :frowning:

We’ve had our dishwasher for about 2 years. This summer, my normal light started blinking. I hadn’t been using the dry function, instead I was cracking the door and letting it air dry. I searched and searched and finally discovered how to reset the unit. It still blinked occasionally, but I could usually get it to stop by just pressing the blinking light, cancel and start all at the same time. I started using the dry cycle again and it stopped. I figured moisture had gotten into the panel and finally dried up once I started using dry again.

Skip forward 5 months. I believe we had a power outage 2-3 weeks ago because my mircowave (also on same breaker switch as dishwasher), was at all 0’s. Since then, my normal light has been blinking, or I will come home after running a cycle and normal and the light to the left (I believe it is pots and pans) are blinking back and forth.

Today I loaded it, and went to start it, but the normal button was blinking. I pressed normal, start, drain as usual to get it off, but it didn’t work. Instead, now I’ve got cancel, normal and pots and pans blinking.

I turned the breaker off 15 minutes. Turned it on, and tried to reset it with the reset code sani rinse-dry sani rinse-dry. It’s suppose to light all lights and then reset, but it doesn’t do anything. I reset the breaker again and tried it with the door open, pressing buttons and then shutting the door. No such luck.

I hate to call a repair person, money is tight at christmas.

My water heater is working fine, and my dish washer has power since the lights are blinking.

I have no idea where to even begin or go from here. help?

What is the complete model number of the dishwasher and the color of the control panel?

The model number you posted is incomplete. Check the name plate on the door frame.

Blinking LED(s) on the control panel means shorted circuit(s) in the keypad or in controls input lines that read the keys. In order to determine whether shorts are in the keypad or the control board do the following:

  1. Unplug dishwasher or disconnect power.
  2. Open the dishwasher door.
  3. Open console and disconnect the keypad ribbon connection from the control (at P1). Make sure all other connections are made.
  4. Put console back together. Do not close the dishwasher door.
  5. Plug in dishwasher or reconnect power.
  6. Wait 5 seconds.
  7. Close dishwasher door.
  8. Monitor the control’s response:
    a) If the control is OK (no longer sees shorts with the keypad unplugged), it will respond by turning on a Drain Motor for 2 minutes. Replace the keypad if the control responds OK.
    b) If the control is not OK (still sees shorts with the keypad unplugged), then the drain motor will NOT respond and will remain off. If no response, replace the control.

Thanks for all your help Gene! Haven’t been back with Christmas/Birthday/NewYears/8th Wedding annivesary maddness! But I’m so thankful for your details.

I’m going to attempt this on Thursday. And I think with your easily laid out steps I’ll actually accomplish it! The whole thing sounds easy, but I just don’t have time the next two days. Thursday I’m off most the day.

Let me just confirm this though.

If it kicks into drain with the key pad/control pannel unplugged, that is the problem and if it doesn’t drain than its my control board?

Is there a specific cause for these problems or is it just the machine? (Seems a lot of people have blinking light issues out there).

That’s absolutely right.

There is no any specific cause for this problem. Computers do not like such wet and/or hot environment.

I followed these instructions and got the the control board. The blinking light continued. So now I’m stuck with a $95 controler and still need to spend another $125 for the control panel. What a waste of money!

Why did you follow these instructions?

The model number and the problem description you posted earlier (http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/dishwasher-repair/163256-no-power-quiet-partner-iii.html) are absolutely different as well as the part numbers for the control board and the control panel for this model.

If there is no power at all, then did you check the thermal fuse and the door switches for continuity? Visual check for such parts means nothing.

I can check the fuse with multimeter and it is in good condition.
How can I check the switches. My dishwasher is completely dead. I replaced the control board too.

Did you check the power cord connection to the dishwasher?
