Diagnosis: Failed water filter housing cover/bracket.

Based on the symptom:

  • Model: Whirlpool WRS325SDHB08
  • Main symptom: Broken or missing filter bracket.
  • Complaint: The filter housing cover will not snap into place.

If the retaining bracket or hinge tab on the filter housing is broken or missing, the cover cannot latch. On this model, Whirlpool supplies the water filter housing as a complete assembly, so the bracket is generally not serviced separately. The correct replacement housing color depends on the refrigerator finish; for the stainless/gray version, the housing assembly is ( Whirlpool W11162042 Refrigerator Water Filter Housing | Genuine OEM Part )

White is ( Whirlpool W11162041 Side-By-Side Refrigerator Refrigerator Water Filter Housing | Genuine OEM Part )

Black is ( Whirlpool W11172791 Side-By-Side Refrigerator Refrigerator Water Filter Housing | Genuine OEM Part )

Recommended action:

  • Inspect the filter housing cover for broken hinge tabs or missing latch clips.
  • If the bracket/latch is damaged, replace the complete water filter housing assembly.
  • After installation, verify the filter is fully seated and the cover snaps closed. Whirlpool notes the cover may require firm pressure to latch after the filter is inserted.

Thank you for your reply. Is there a reason the replacement part is different for the color of the refrigerator? The appliance pro part website only mentions the one part number with no color asked about.

Also, I watched the appliance part pro video on replacement and looks fairly straightforward. Is it OK to remove the defective filter housing one day and replace when it comes in? Assuming I have the water shut off at the wall and unplugged while I’m under there?

Thanks.

I had to go to the actual manufacturers website to get them broke down by color. On our site it only shows32, 31a and 32 b. As long as you’re not needing ice it will be fine to take it apart after you turn off the water

Sorry, what does 32, 31a and 32b refer to?

On the parts list breakdown you’ll see 32A,32 and 32B they were the different colors

I also need to replace the “refrigerator crisper drawer holder frame” for the same model. Appliance parts pro web site says the W11368751 should work with both the crisper drawer and the meat drawer but the Appliance compatibility tool link isn’t working. Can you confirm this is the correct part for this purpose?

There appears to be a discrepancy between our diagram and the manufacturers diagram

The crisper drawer frame is ( Whirlpool W11368751 Side-By-Side Refrigerator Refrigerator Crisper Drawer Holder Frame | Genuine OEM Part )

The meat drawer or snack drawer frame is ( Whirlpool W11371713 Refrigerator Snack Pan Holder Frame | Genuine OEM Part )

Thanks for your response. Are you sure? I’m looking at the schematic drawing and it shows the same part for crisper and meat drawer and a different frame part for snack drawer. The W11371713 has tabs to keep it place on both side according to drawing. Those tab fittings are not on the side of the cabinet walls. Actually ther is nothing holding the right side of the crisper and meat drawers on the cabinet which I think is why it broke and the crisper drawer moves a lot on the right side now and will probably break next. I’m confused. Please advise. Thanks.

Ok I think I’m confusing the snack drawer and meat drawer

Yeah the crisper drawer and the meat pan frame are both ( Whirlpool W11368751 Side-By-Side Refrigerator Refrigerator Crisper Drawer Holder Frame | Genuine OEM Part )

Yeah, it’s poorly engineered. The small snack drawer, which holds less weight is designed better than the crisper and meat drawer for the heavier weights. The fact there is nothing supporting the right side of the larger drawers is dumb. It’s why they break. I used double sided in the drawer slide on the frame of the crisper drawer the hold it steady. Thanks for your help. We both learned something!
