Replacing tub seal,now what?

Okay, I got the spanner nut off. ..found a little trick to doing it that helped tremendously. I also loosened the springs, brackets, and hose etc. on bottom so the outer tub SHOULD come off. Anything else I should do from underneath?
Now I’m trying to get the inner tub out and it doesn’t want to come out.

still trying to separate inner tub. Tried to do it with spanner nut both on and off. Have sprayed, pried, pounded, twisted, pushed, pulled, kicked, cussed, and begged.
Did I forget something?

This parts breakdown may help you figure out what else needs to come off. Model LA5558XSW0

Yes, I have the top part off, including the spanner nut. I need to separate the inner tub from the outer tub and it doesn’t want to budge. I am thinking of a rope and a 2x4, unless you have another idea.

It should come on out but a rope and a 2x4 might be inorder.

Put the drive block nut back on but not tight. Pound down on it with a hammer and pull up on the front of the spin basket, it should break loose.

I tried with spanner nut on, nothing. Sprayed liguid wrench & went to bed. this morning pushed & pulled in all directions & it came off. I guess you have to let that spray do it’s job…the drive block is rusted halfway off along the bottom where it flanges out, will replace that too. Now to get the drive block “lock” off. I’m almost there. Tonight I bake homemade bread and tell the woman who wouldn’t let her husband help me that I did it myself.

Keep us posted.

Turns out the drive block does NOT have a lock on it (shown in diagram). I sprayed. pounded and pried, but it split in half, mainly cause it was so rusted along the bottom. So now I wait for another part. It took 10 days for one company to send me a tub seal which turned out to be an “O” ring. ($5 + s&h). --in a big box. 5 days later I got the right part. So I cleaned everything else up and put the seal on and the tubs back in and am just waiting for thet drive block. Hope it’s the right one. Most of these parts are universal (at least the older machines, yeah!).
Just try telling that to the person who answers the phone.

How do you know how old the appliances are? There is nothing on them that I can tell.

Post your serial number and I’ll try to look it up for you.
If you ordered from here you should have the part within a couple of days.

Serial # CX1870647. The washer & dryer were not used for quite a few years as I am a renter and did not have hookups where I moved. The lady I bought them from said she had only used them for two years and then put them in storage for the same reason. I have been hauling them around with me from place to place because they are very nice machines. The washer works great for that leaky seal.Just curious how old they are, as they were only actually used for two years. That practically makes them quite new to me.

I got the new seal in–used a little “plumber’s grease” to help get everything down over the shaft. Put on the new drive block and cleaned everything. I checked all the hoses for wear, and cleaned out the middle of the inner tub with steel wool, because there was rust in the tube. Then I took apart the agitator to check the condition of the “dogs”. The agitator worked fine but just wanted to see for myself. Getting it back together was “fun” until I realized you have to hold the two parts horizontally to do it.
After slipping the cabinet on, I THEN unscrewed the console to access the large clips that hold the cabinet to the back. It was easier to do it this way, because it kept the console with the cabinet while I was working, and not flopping all over the place.
Here’s another trick: when taking that spanner nut off, I could only get it to move a tiny fraction. I sprayed more Wd40 and gave it a few minutes to work. Then I banged on the wrench in the opposite direction, (to tighten). Then I banged back the other way, and did it again. That worked fantasically. It moved right away.
Two weeks ago I had no idea what I was doing. I actually had tried to GIVE away the dryer but nobody wanted it! They want the “new” stuff, with all the digital features on them. Which are controlled by a computer module, which costs about $200 to replace.
When I went to return the spanner wrench to the guy that lent it to me, he had a set exactly like mine that he wanted almost $400 for.
It cost me less than $40 to fix my washer, and I learned something.

Another hint: wait until you have the washer torn apart and have inspected everything. That way you won’t have to place another order. You’ll pay for shipping each time, so order everything all at once.
