The glass on my induction cooktop is cracked. I can get the part from Appliance Parts Pros, but before I order it, I need to find out how hard it is to replace. What does it entail?
Do yourself a HUGH favor, Call a PRO, This is a NOT an easy job,and in My opinion (26yrs exp.) It will not turn out well!!!
Can you at least tell me what is actually involved? I am considering taking it apart before ordering the part, so that I can see what the glass is attached to, and how it goes together. (First step – disconnect the electricity!)
Obviously, if it is way too complex, I will have the GE people come out.
If you could post the correct model# I would be happy to look and see what is involved, Thanks
Sorry! I thought I had posted the model number. It is (GE) PHP900DMBB.
Thanks for your help.
Thats the # that you DID post the 1st time, For some reason this site wont show a parts break down, Sorry I couldn’t help any further!!!
Does this help at all?
It does, Although it looks fairly straight foward, I believe, that if everything goes PERFECT, You could do it OK.However, I can only guess what GE charges for that GLASS, If you hire it done, and something goes wrong, and the top dosent work OR the glass breaks, They will have to make it rite, If you change it, and have a problem, Your STUCK with it. In My world(however small it is) The $75-$100 to have someone do it, would be money well spent. Good Luck!!!
Yours looks even simpler than mine was. The burners on mine were connected to the glass frame. That’s what I had to take off to swap it out. Yours looks like the burners are connected to the base and only the four screws on the front holding it in. Could be more not shown on the sides and back. I had to slide mine out from the cabinet to get at all my screws.
Thank you for your help. I think I’ll give it a try, especially since GE has told me that the warranty on my less-than-6-month-old cook top has been voided because of “Customer Abuse” – which apparently includes letting a bottle of olive oil topple (not drop) on to it. Grrrr…
What was the resolution of replacing your induction glass? I am facing the same problem and was researching help, there is very little on the subject out there.
