Replacing heating element

My heating element is caked with calcium and may have to be replaced. Is this something that can be done by me rather than having to hire a technician? It appears that the element just unplugs like the heating element of an electric stove, but your parts department is telling me that Kitchenaid has upgraded the part and is providing a computer board that must also be replaced. So, my question is: can I replace the element and can I replace the computer board without professional help? Thanks in advance for your response. Jose

You probably can if you now how to handle a simple tools.
