Replacing a water inlet valve

 I decided to surprise my husband and clean out the screen on the water inlet valve that connects to the back of my washing machine. After much thought and searching for just the right tools, I crawled up on the washer and thought lefty loosie and proceded to turn and turn the hose connecter to the cold valve. I was successful . . . in ruining the intake valve because I didn’t take into consideration that I was looking at the valve from behind and therefore turned it the wrong way.
So I wasn’t in the dog house, but was told to get if fixed or fix it or buy a new one. I want to try to right my wrong by replacing the intake valve if I can have help with what to do. I read the manual and it did not refer to this repair, would there be a kind person willing to give me some advice? I can order the part or maybe get one local, haven’t got that far yet. Thanks, and have a CLEAN day!
