My dryer quit heating. I disassembled it and found the heating element to be broken. I replaced the heating element. I have done this before without problems. I reassembled it and it still wouldn’t heat.
Here’s what I have checked.
-
The new heating element is installed properly and not touching the case or otherwise grounded to anything. I checked visually and with an ohm meter.
-
I removed a wire from each of the three thermocouples in picture one and checked for continuity. The ohm meter read 0.
-
I check for power at the heating element. See picture two. The black wire and the orange with black stripe both read 120 volts when checked against the case. This is with the dryer on or off. The purple wire reads nothing. When checking the orange and black ones together I get 0 volts.
I checked the purple wire against the case and I get no continuity with the dryer off and a fairly low ohm reading with it on.
The replacement element they sold me is HHWE11X103C.
What could be wrong and what else can I check. The way I see it. I have 110 to the heating element and I have a switch neutral to the heating element. Shouldn’t it be getting hot?
Thank you in advance for your prompt reply.
