I very much appreciate the help - was laid off 2 weeks ago and need the help to save money. I have a GE Monogram ZBD5900 series dishwasher and had prior issues with this machine as well as my other monogram appliances such as the fridge and oven.
They sent out the GE repair person and he indicated that the floater was stuck from built up gunk. he wanted to charge $200 to repair it and said it would be 1hr of labor.
I am trying to fix it myself and need to know how to get to the sump & float to repair.
The machine will not shut down or it will start a cycle and then goes quickly to the rinse cycle and then will turn off. The person from GE said he was 99% sure it was a stuck float assembly. he did nothing more than just listen to it. I pulled the machine out and was hoping access to float would be easy but it is not. I pulled the side metal side plates off and I can see the float and I can move it lightly with my screw driver - it looks like it is not stuck and floating.
I did clean all of the filters and the GE man said that it was not the circuit board but I had an issue with that before. he said that if you push the clear button that it will stay in that mode and will cycle through and that because the float is stuck it will continue to drain. I do recall that the computer should beep or stop if you open the door. I do not know at this point but I am wondering if they do not want to say it is the board so they do not have to support their labor warranty from their last visit?
Thank you for the info very helpful - because the rinse & hold light is blinking it must be the fault code for not draining.
This sequence has occurred a couple of time but very hard to duplicate. it will start to fill then sounds like it will start to wash then goes to rinse/hold very quickly and then the rinse/hold LED starts blinking and stops.
The bizarre thing is that it will not reset when I unplug and try to push the clear button. it will only try to fill for a short time and then the pump keeps on going.
I can’t even try the self diagnostics because I can not stop the cycle when I plug the machine back in the wall - same cycle fill and then drain come on.
Looks like the dishwasher is in the overfill mode.
Remove the kick panel to access parts under the dishwasher. Remove the power from the dishwasher and turn off the water line. Follow the attached instructions.
If you can access the needed parts under the dishwasher without removing the door panel, it’s better not to remove it because of all electronic components and the wiring harness inside.
I know this crappy dishwasher well. There is no such part.
The only float on the machine is an overflow sump float. There is typically NEVER water in this area unless something else is wrong. If this happens the drain pump runs continuously and the control board is not responsive. The dishwasher seems like it has a faulty control board.
