Removing oven door on a KitchenAid KEMS378GSS0

I need to replace one of the glass panels in my oven door. However, I can’t figure out how to remove the door as the hinges don’t contain the flip-over locks shown in almost all the videos I’ve seen, nor do I see any holes in the hinges into which door removal pins (or nails) can be inserted.

If the door is opened to a 45 degree angle, it should be able to be rotated up while pulling away from the oven.

When opened 45’, there is no “play” at all. When opened maybe 30’, there is some vertical play … but try as I might I cannot manage to get the door to move “out” – i.e. away from the oven cavity. Here’s a picture of one of my hinges:

Any other ideas?

A nail or other item can be placed in the port just to the left of the hinge pin as seen in the image.

Tried that – and the nails do stop the door from closing more than 45’. But, I still can’t get any “in and out” motion – and barely any “up and down” motion. Maybe I need to enlist a second pair of hands …

If both hinges are blocked with pins or nails in the ports, it should rotate up towards the oven a little bit and then pull out while slightly lifting, based on the hinge type. As seen in the link, it utilizes a hook design at the tip. WP4455525 Oven Door Hinge | Genuine Whirlpool OEM In Stock

Still not working … perhaps because my hinge is of the type shown in this picture taken from a KitchenAid “Technical Education” brief that supposedly covers my oven:

Note that piece that goes into the body of the oven is dramatically different than WP4455525. Unfortunately, I can’t find a part number that matches the above picture.

Update: Got the door off with the help of a second person – to manipulate the nails I was using as door removal pins so as to allow the door to close a bit further while still attached to the oven. And, indeed, the hanger looks just like that for part WP4455525 – which doesn’t bode all that well for the applicability of the remaining instructions contained in the technical brief I alluded to previously!

Anyway, thanks for the quick responses. Now wish me luck replacing the glass …

OK, I’ve managed to replace the glass and reinstall the door. Took much longer than expected, for two principal reasons:

  1. The lack of hinge latches on this oven makes removing and reinstalling the door a pain – especially reinstalling. Didn’t help that I didn’t have any bona fide “door removal pins” and used nails, but I doubt those pins would have made things much easier. (Biggest issue was getting the nails/pins back out after reinstalling the door
  2. The screws that attach the inside cover to the other components (including the hinges) aren’t long enough to easily “grab” both the hinges and the middle glass holder. After first inserting the screws at the top and bottom of the door, as well as the bottom screws the attach to the hinges, I had to hold the oven door up vertically and tilt it toward me in order to leverage gravity to get the middles glass holder to tilt forward enough to get the top screws to grab hold. Failure to get those screws attached will mean the glass you just inserted will be “loose” in the frame.

All that aside, many thanks for providing the replacement glass at a good price, and for all of the advice.
