Removing/installing gearcase shaft seal

While replacing the motor coupler a while back, I noticed some oil had leaked onto the floor. I took a closer look and could see a trail which started at the gearcase input shaft. I ordered the replacement seal, part #285352, which came in a kit of two parts. I watched a video showing the removal of the old seal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mz1aDPYey8o (you can skip to the 2:10 mark of the video). However I have a feeling that the old seal is missing. Here are some photos of my machine:

I do have a vague recollection from many years ago about finding a part under the washing machine which looked like it could be a seal.

My question is, does it appear from the above photos that the seal is missing? If not, how do I remove it? I tried using a screwdriver but came up empty looking for the seal.

Thanks for your reply.

Looks like the seal is still there. See this page for alternate method of removing the seal.

Hi Eric,

I had seen that very same webpage before where it explains how to insert a screw into the seal to remove it. I just wanted to get a second opinion to make sure I wasn’t drilling into the actual gearcase. I tried it out and sure enough, after having to drill a small pilot hole, the screw pushed the seal right out. Very ingenious!

Thanks so much for your help.
