Brand: GE Model Number: PVD28BYNCFS Main Symptom: freezer at 37 deg What happens & when: issue started with ice maker not working. Then realized freezer was not getting cold enough. And had an awful sounding rattle. Bought replacement fan. Opened up freezer and found back ice covered. Thawed all ice with hair dryer. Removed two screws. Can NOT get the back panel off. Tried and got part of the bottom to come out about 2". Put it back together but couldn’t get bottom part seated. Now freezer is at 37 degrees.

It appears that the back panel is in 2 pieces. A top piece and a bottom piece. The bottom piece seems glued in place or something. The top piece looks like it’s intended to come off. There are tabs viewable on the lower edge of the top piece. I was able to use force to just pull the lower edge of the top piece past the tabs. I can pull it out about 2" and see behind it. I cannot see how the upper part of the top piece releases. I tried force on the upper right and now I have a 1" crack there in the corner. There is no ice behind it. I’m looking for the proper way to remove it without cracking it further. Is it supposed to slide up? Pull straight out? Pull down?
